Im so grateful Bob for your work. After reading your Early years Story it just came so strong and I started to cry. I don't know why, maybe just because I felt so sad that such a wonderful and talented person developed into such a miserable end so early in life, maybe because I had known him in an earlier life as I can relate to him as a soul very much. I understand that I really love him which I hadn't thought about before, I just been deeply touched and amazed by his music I immidetely recognized Jaco’s genius when I heard his first solo album sometime in 1975-76 when I was 19 years old. I remember I thought that the spirit in this music is beyond the best, it belongs to another universe where the very few sacred geniuses are. Of course being a guitarist I was amazed at his sound, technique, innovative power, groove, phrasing, compositions and arrangements but it was his soul that really hit me. To me, although there are so many wonderful and unbelievable musicians like Miles, Pat Metheny, Coltrane, Jarrett, Jaco and Charlie Parker are the only two ones that I feel had that special touch and gift that is beyond understanding. Im also touched by your way of writing and deeply grateful for your work. You seem to be such a great guy and you sure must be as you were a friend of Jaco. May you live a long and happy life. Thank you!

Truly a giant among bass players. Unbelievable talent. I was aware of Jaco from the lat 70's/early 80's due to his work with Joni Mitchell but never had the opportunity to listen to any of his own music until I bought Portrait of Jaco. I'm so glad I did and I am now going to buy more of his music, especially his Weather Report years. Thanks so much! And thanks to Jaco, too.

I'm probably older than most of your writers. (47) I grew up in south florida and remember seeing Jaco live playing with Wayne Cochoran and the CC Riders. I encourage all young bassists who I come in contact with to listen Jaco and be inspired.

Jaco played with brother Kim in the Las Olas Brass, late 60"s, early 70's. At that time he didn't do drugs, he tried to keep everybody else clean. I had the joy of listening to them jam weekly and heard Jaco progress as a teenage talent to a brilliant artist. A time I shall never forget, and Jaco's tunes still shine brightly in my heart. Would love to hear any recordings of the Las Olas Brass!

Ever since I heard him in "Bright Size Life," he's been always in my playing.
